Course Description & Instructional Schedule
The Shiatsu Therapist Certificate Course
is a 5 months, 406.5 hour course in the basic principles and techniques of Shiatsu Therapy which includes Shiatsu Clinical experience and basic knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology. In the first 4 months, classes will be held on in Januaty, May and September*. At the end of month, the student begins clinical experience at school clinic. Upon successful completion of this course students will receive a certificate which is transferable to the 2000-hour Shiatsupractor® Diploma Program. Graduates are eligible to apply to the Canadian Shiatsu Society of BC for membership.

*A work perimit is required to resister the Shitsu thrapist certificate course.

Curriculum
Shiatsu Foundation (153 hours) -Basic Theory and Practice
An introduction to the foundations of Shiatsu Therapy including the following: self-shiatsu for the whole body, 10 and 20 minute chair Shiatsu treatments, the basic full-body treatment (660 points). Basic treatment in the Ouga (side lying or lateral), Fukuga (prone) and Gyoga (supine) positions are taught.
Some of the other topics covered are proper body mechanics (Kata) for the practitioner, Shiatsu Theory, the factual history and development of Shiatsu from its beginning with Tokujiro Namikoshi to present day, and preparation for entrance to School Clinic and Field Work (policies and procedures).
Adequate class time is allowed for students to practice all of the treatments before the final assessment which allows them to begin their practicum in the School Clinic.

Climical Experience
(100.5 hours)-Students practice at the CCST treating 50 patients under supervision.
Basic Anatomy & Physiology 
(153 hours)- A shorter version of  the Anatomy & Physiology course taught in the Diploma Program.

Textbooks must be purchased separately by the student.

Please include the following with your appilacation:

  1. Your resume
  2. Proof of high school, college, or university graduation - copy of Diploma and / or Certificate
  3. A letter of recommendation (e.g. from employer or non-family member)
  4. A certificate of health from a medical doctor stating that you are in good health and free from communicable disease. ( Please provide a history of contagious diseases.)
  5. A letter, two pages or less in length, stating why you want to study Shiatsu
  6. A criminal record (local student only)
  7. A $100.00 non-refundable application fee made payable to Canadian College of Shiatsu Therapy Inc. which will be applied to your tuition fees once approved. ( If not approved your application fee will be returned to you)
