Japanese
Culture and Language Class of 2008
The Video of
Japanese Culture Class activity Activity 1 OSUSHI(ROLLS) and
ONIGIRI
Activity 2 Calligraphy and SUMIE
On this day, we held a traditional Japanese calligraphy class. Although this was the first time for the students to try writing by using FUDE and SUMI, they did an excellent job. It is difficult to make out from these pictures, but staff members were amazed with the works by TOME, HANE, and HARAI. A couple weeks later, we also had a SUMIE class. The works showed each student's personality and were very well done. The works are now exhibited in our classrooms and in the clinic room, and create a healing atmosphere for visitors.

Activity 3 KIMONO We learned how to wear a KIMONO at this activity. Before learning how to wear the KIMONO, students admired its beauty through video and books. We had classes how to wear YUKATA not to wear KIMONO, and students appeared to be very excited, because they've wore YUKATA for the first time.
Activity 4 Tea Ceremony One this day, a tea ceremony was held at school as an activity. All the staff, as well as a student named Takashi who happened to be there, were invited to the tea ceremony, where they had tasty Japanese sweets and Matcha. To our surprise, all tea ceremony tools belongs to Christophe who is one of our students. He brought them for the tea ceremony.
