Japanese Culture and Language Class of 2008

In our school, we have Japanese culture classes as well as Shiatsu classes. The purpose of these classes is not only to learn Japanese, but through various activities, learn about Japanese culture in order to deepen understanding of the traditional culture of Shiatsu. Most popular with international students is that they enjoy the Japanese atmosphere.

Activity 1 OSUSHI(ROLLS) and ONIGIRI
After learning Japanese table manners under Yuko sensei, the students prepared Avocado SUSHI Rolls, Cucumber Rolls, and Kanpyou Rolls. LOOK!! These rolls look very beautiful. All stuff members were impressed by beauty and taste of rolls. Two weeks later, staff was invited to an ONIGIRI party. Staffs that have lived in Canada for some time were given a moment to enjoy ONIGIRI made from the first rice crop of the year.

Activity 2 Calligraphy and SUMIE
On this day, we held a traditional Japanese calligraphy class. Although this was the first time for the students to try writing by using FUDE and SUMI, they did an excellent job. It is difficult to make out from these pictures, but staff members were amazed with the works by TOME, HANE, and HARAI. A couple weeks later, we also had a SUMIE class. The works showed each student's personality and were very well done. The works are now exhibited in our classrooms and in the clinic room, and create a healing atmosphere for visitors.

Activity 4 Tea Ceremony
One this day, a tea ceremony was held at school as an activity. All the staff, as well as a student named Takashi who happened to be there, were invited to the tea ceremony, where they had tasty Japanese sweets and Matcha. To our surprise, all tea ceremony tools belongs to Christophe who is one of our students. He brought them for the tea ceremony.
