Canadian College of Shiatsu Therapy provides
Instructor Workshop Sept. 2009

On September 12th and 13th, for the first time, the Canadian College of Shiatsu Therapy held a workshop especially for our instructors to improve on their teaching techniques at the campus of the Canadian College of Shiatsu Therapy. We welcomed Ms. Hilda Penner, an experienced anatomy teacher from Vancouver Career College as a speaker. Her teaching career is diverse and established. In fact, she used to teach psychology at Canadian College of Shiatsu Therapy about four years ago.
The attendants were our Chief Financial Officer; Hikari Ikenaga, The Administrator as well as head Clinical Supervisor; Yoko Abe, Clinical Supervisor; Akiko Miyamoto and Ikuko Kano, Assistant Instructor; Jack Miro, Business instructor; April Watts, Nutrition instructor; Sherry Duggal, and Chinese Medicine Instructor; Mr. and Mrs. Chang.
On the 1st day or the workshop, the instructors learned how to make a lesson plan and how to effectively use lecture techniques. On the second day, all the instructors prepared a presentation on what they had learned.
It was a beneficial workshop for the instructors to prepare for the coming fall semester. We believe that continuous learning by our instructors will enhance our school standards and inspire current and future students.
We received a feedback of the workshop from Sherry Duggal, Nutrition instructor of the Canadian College of Shiatsu Therapy.

The workshop was informative, and hands on. I am applying what I learned at the workshop. I would have liked to have gone into a bit more detail in terms of the areas that were covered. For example: how to deal with students who are not cooperative, or paying attention. I wanted more information!!
Overall, this workshop inspired me to learn more about how to teach effectively. I am very passionate about teaching, and this workshop added fuel to the fire!! Watching everyone else doing their mini lectures was also fantastic. It was effective, and I will incorporate the other teacher's styles of teaching into my own.
