Shiatsu Volunteer at the Honolulu Marathon   Dec. 2010

It is the time for Honolulu Marathon again!! On Decemer 12, 2012, the 38th Honolulu marathon was held in Hawaii.
This year, 20418 participants, including 8 wheelchair-runners, finished 42.195km.
Annually shiatsu volunteers give free shiatsu treatments to the marathon runners, and the same as the last year, Kiyoshi Ikenana
sensei and his wife, Hikari sensei, participated in the volunteer work from the Canadian College of Shiatsu Therapy. Over 30 years, Fumihiko Indei sensei, principal of Hawaii Aisen Shiatsu School, and his wife, Elaine sensei, have put hearts to cheering for the Honolulu marathon runners and have inspired all shiatsu therapists.

Shiatsu Volunteer for Honolulu Marathon runners

The Honolulu marathon started at 5 o'clock in the morning, and the volunteer members also gathered at the same time as the runners in the finishing area. About 2 hours from the start, many finished runners came inside the tent and it became full. There was a long line up for shiatsu treatment outside of the tent. Shiatsu was very popular among the runners!! It has been 32 years since Mr. and Mrs. Indei, started organizing the annual volunteer work. Without taking a rest, Kiyoshi Ikenaga sensei and Hikari sensei continued giving shiatsu treatment one after another.
